DARTS
Mobberley is a village with no less than eight licensed premises - Chapel House, Railway, Bulls Head, Roebuck, Plough and Flail, Bird in Hand, Frozen Mop and of course the Memorial Club. Life, for many years in Mobberley, involved the daily toil of farming or working in local factories and thereby the pubs and clubs became a staple.
It will therefore come as little surprise that in a village ranked as the second largest Parish in the country, that it has produced some of the better Cheshire league players in a wide range of sports throughout it’s history. Darts was no exception.
The Memorial Club was a latecomer to the local darts league scene when in 2004 it joined under the guidance of current club steward Gary Hammond. Gary is a former county standard player who can boast many victories against top class players in many competitions and the scalp of many of darts household names - Eric Bristow, John Lowe etc.
Darts in the club is now - temporarily - restricted to the occasional challenge match between local hostelries and the ultra competitive Christmas knock-out. But it is there, waiting in the fine wall cabinet, beneath the spotlight, with all the markings in place, ready for it’s comeback when called upon.
